Samuel Martin Obituary

Samuel Joshua Martin, affectionately known as “Sammy”, a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in his hometown of Joliet, Illinois. He was born to Samatha Martin and Derrick Martin on August 1, 2003. Samuel’s life was a vibrant tapestry of passion, kindness, and youthful exuberance.

Samuel attended Joliet Central High School, where he graduated in 2021. His curiosity and intelligence shone brightly in the classroom, earning him the admiration of both teachers, coaches, and peers.

Sammy’s athletic spirit was most visible on the basketball court, playing as a small forward for the Joliet Township Central High School team. His teammates will remember him for his unwavering team spirit, determination, and the infectious smile that never left his face, even during the most challenging basketball games.

Samuel is preceded in death by his grandfather, Ronald Key and great grandmother Nancy Suggs.

Samuel is survived and deeply missed by his loving parents, Derrick (Tanisha) Martin and Samantha Martin; five siblings, Deericka Martin, Desiree Martin, Geniyah Parham, Daiyaan Allen, and Lawrence Allen; grandparents, Derrick (Gwendolyn) Martin and Edna (Reginald) Watson; grandmother, Rhonda Key and Carmen Abbott; great-grandmother, Mary Jones; aunts, Nicole (Jerrold) Hill, Somora Dyson, Kizzy Minor and Armanda Dyson; uncles, Ryan Dyson, Jake Key and Matthew Key; and numerous close-knit family of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many- many friends.
